Leadership Position Applications

Posted on Jul 24 2016 - 11:50pm

As the end of the current leadership positions comes to a near, it is time to prepare for new Positions of Responsibility.

The application form is available online here:

http://coppell842.mytroop.us/system/files/YouthLeadershipPositionApplication.pdf

More information, such as position descriptions and mid-term review forms are here:

http://coppell842.mytroop.us/taxonomy/term/1182

(you will need to log in to the website)

Remember that the review form is used to determine whether you have been completing your duties for leadership credit.

If you have been keeping up with attendance logs in your binders (you have, haven't you?!?!), then you can use that information on the application form.

Scouts need terms of Positions of Responsibility to progress to Star, Life and Eagle ranks.  It is not necessary to be First Class rank already to apply for a position, however some positions have minimum rank requirements, and rank will be one of the factors considered when scouts are selected for appointed positions.

The positions of Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader are elected.  The patrol elects the Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader; the troop elects the Senior Patrol Leader.  All other positions are appointed.

Note: The Assistant Patrol Leader position does NOT count for the Positions of Responsibility for Star, Life and Eagle ranks.  Please check your handbook when applying for a position, if you need the term for your next rank.

The positions of Troop Guide, Den Chief and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster are 12-month terms.  If you are in one of those positions, please let me know whether you wish to remain in that position or not.

Tuesday July 26th at the end of the weekly meeting is the FINAL DEADLINE for leadership applications to be submitted.  They can be submitted at the meetings on the 12th, 19th or 26th.  if you are traveling, then you may want to turn in your forms when you are in town.

Tuesday August 2nd will be the leadership elections.  The results will be announced at the August 9th Court of Honor, and new terms will begin on August 16th

National Youth Leadership Training

Posted on May 5 2016 - 9:13am

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the highest level of youth leadership training, offered by BSA.  It is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others.

NYLT is also a pre-requisite for the SPL position at Troop 842.  It is a six-day course, usually held at Camp James Ray in Pottsboro.  Scouts must be at least 13 years, First Class, and hold a leadership position in the troop.

There are several NYLT sessions during the Summer Break.  For information, click here.

If you do take NYLT, please email a copy of your certificate to advancements@troop842.com for troop records.
