Swim Test

Posted on Apr 24 2016 - 9:32pm

Troop 842 will hold its annual Swim Test on Saturday April 30th at CORE (formerly Coppell Aquatic Center)

It is good for one year so even if you did it last year, you need to re-test.

This a required for all Scouts and Adults to be able to participate in any of the water activities.

This includes the May Canoeing Campout.

If you are a member of the CARC/CORE, please bring your Card so that we don't have to pay a guest fee.

These are the requirements:

  • Jump feet first into water over the head, level off, and begin swimming.
  • Swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: side, breast, trudgen, or crawl. Swim 25 yards using an easy, resting backstroke.
  • The 100 yards must be completed without stops and must include at least one sharp turn.
  • Rest by floating…Long enough to demonstrate ability to rest when exhausted.

Note that the last lap must be elementary backstroke, which is different from regular backstroke.  There is a video explaining the Elementary Backstroke here.

Scouts: if you still need First Class requirement 9c (pre-2016 requirements):

  • Seek out Mr. Florentino at the swim test.
  • Encourage your parents to help Mr. Florentino to lead this requirement
  • Bring your scout handbook and a pen [in a Ziploc bag] for sign-off
